Supporting Our Allies.

Thursday, March 29th, 2007

I am writing today in disbelief.

Speaker Nancy Pelosi is refusing to bring a resolution to the floor that condemns the Iranian capture of 15 British marines and sailors. We must not allow Pelosi to play politics with the security of the free world. House Republicans are calling on Speaker Pelosi to immediately bring H.Res. 267 to the floor today, before Congress adjourns, to stand in support of our British allies.

Blog Row on Capitol Hill

Wednesday, March 28th, 2007

House Republicans are hosting a blog row event today at the Capitol.  A blog row is an opportunity for bloggers to meet with leading Republicans, ask questions, and get answers on the future direction of this country.  Today, we’ve got a great group of bloggers in attendance: Mark I of Red State, Pat Cleary of ShopFloor.org (also of Red State), Ivy Sellers from Human Events, Robert Bluey of Heritage, Mary Katherine Ham of Townhall.com, Steven Spruiell of NRO’s Media Blog, and Brian from Influence Peddler.

Eric will be heading over to blog row shortly to meet with some of the conservative community’s leading bloggers and talk about the House Democrats’ disastrous budget and the impact that it would have on American families.

UPDATE: Just got back from blog row, it was definitely a good time. The enthusiasm, from both the bloggers and the Members in attendence, was great to witness. The theme of the day was fiscal responsibility; unfortunately, the simple fact is that the House Democrats have abandoned it, by proposing the largest tax increase in American history.

A Good Old Fashioned Tax Fight

Wednesday, March 28th, 2007

This morning, Eric led a press conference to highlight the problems in the House Democrats’ budget proposal.  Put simply, their budget represents the single largest tax hike in American history; forty-five million American families with children will see their taxes increase over $2,800 per year.

Democrats also refuse to deal with the problem of the AMT, the number of AMT filers caught by the AMT will increase this year by 19 million people.  In the 7th District alone, AMT filers will go from 10,868 this year to 73,517 next year.

We’re in a good old fashioned tax fight and we want you to know that House Republicans are standing with the American People.

A Dramatic Day on the Floor

Thursday, March 22nd, 2007

Major Drama on the House Floor today! The Democrats are clearly in disarray.  First, the ongoing search by Pelosi and Hoyer for enough votes to pass the Iraq War Supplemental spending bill.  So far, reports indicate that the Dems are short; very few Republicans will be supporting the supplemental bill, which ties the hands of our soldiers and attempts to micro-manage the war.  Moreover, many Members are in disbelief over the pork in the bill…at last count, somewhere over 23 billion dollars of unrelated spending such as 100s of millions of dollars for spinach and peanut farmers.

While the search for votes continued, the House debated the DC voting bill.  According to House Parliamentarians, for the first time ever, just as the bill and the Republican alternative was to go to a vote, Pelosi abruptly stopped all debate and pulled the bill. Why? Because the Republican alternative included a repeal of the DC gun ban.  Knowing of the significant support for the Second Amendment and fearing defeat, Pelosi and her leadership team decided to “duck” and go on to begin debate on the Iraq spending bill.  No telling how the Dems get out of this jam. Stay Tuned!
