Tune in to Power Lunch Today.

Thursday, March 22nd, 2007

This afternoon, Eric will be appearing on CNBC’s Power Lunch; be sure to tune it or check back here for an update.

UPDATE:  Eric’s interview on CNBC’s Power Lunch went well, here is a great quote from Eric on the Democrat budget resolution:

“Over the last twelve years, Congress has been able to cut taxes for American families and businesses.  And that’s really been the key to the tremendous economic expansion that we’ve experienced in this country.  What we have here is literally the largest tax increase in American history housed in the Democrats’ budget.”

The average American family of four making $40,000 a year will experience $2,052 more in a tax liability every year.

If House Democrats Had Their Way…

Wednesday, March 21st, 2007

House Democrats are trying to tie the hands of American soldiers with legislative tricks and bureaucratic limitations. Republicans are supporting a measure that would prevent restrictions of funding for America’s troops who are in a combat zone.

Watch the video and sign this petition to tell House Democrats that you support our troops and that you don’t want Capitol Hill micro-managing the war from Washington.

UPDATE: N.Z. over at The Victory Caucus has a great post up on the politics of pork that the Democrat leadership is playing with the supplemental.

UPDATE: We are getting some reports of significant bandwidth usage, so here is a YouTube link of the video as well.

Jack Reid’s Retirement

Wednesday, March 21st, 2007

Jack Reid has been a great leader, principled legislator and conservative champion for the people of Virginia’s 72nd District for 17 years. Jack was first elected to the House of Delegates in 1989 and has served in that body with great distinction. His retirement will create a leadership void not easily filled and when House of Delegates reconvenes in their newly renovated Capitol Chambers next January, Jack Reid’s absence will no doubt be felt.

Throughout his service in the General Assembly, Jack has been a tireless advocate for smaller government and greater educational opportunities for Virginia’s children. Jack was instrumental in bringing accountability and standards into Virginia’s classrooms and has worked to create an education system in Virginia that is a model to the nation.

During Jack’s tenure, he helped Republicans regain the majority in the General Assembly. This GOP surge was due in no small part to Jack’s tenacity and outspoken leadership. As Jack retires in December, we know he will continue to remain involved in this community and we wish him best of luck and Godspeed!

Blackberry’d Message from Eric on the Budget

Tuesday, March 20th, 2007

House Republicans are anticipating the unveiling of the Democrat budget some time this week, maybe even as early as tonight.  Early indications are that the Democrats have outdone themselves, raising taxes and increasing spending.  Democrat Budget Committee Chairman in the Senate, Senator Kent Conrad (North Dakota) revealed last week the Dem’s fiscal roadmap for the year.  It’s clear, the Democrats’ budget represents:

1) The largest tax increase in American History,

2) Immense new spending programs, and

3) No reform of entitlement spending.  Looking under the hood, the taxpayers will find the Dems raising taxes $400 billion over 5 years, (the next largest tax increase in history was $345 billion) and adding $19 billion in new discretionary spending.  All totaled, in the first two months in office, the Democrat majority has increased spending nearly $50 billion.

Blue Dog Democrats, Give Us A Sign.

Tuesday, March 20th, 2007

For the past several years, Blue Dog Democrats have produced (at taxpayer expense) signs that highlight the current state of the national debt and have placed those signs by their doors.

Blue Dogs One Pager

This week, Blue Dog Democrats will have a chance to give us a sign that they are serious about eliminating pork projects, by voting against the supplemental funding bill.  This piece of legislation contains over $20 billion in pork projects, for items like peanut storage and millions of dollars for Hill staffers’ salaries.

To highlight the choice now facing the Blue Dogs, we’ve released this one-pager on the issue.

The Caucus of Confusion.

Monday, March 19th, 2007

House Democrats are divided and confused over their plans for the Iraq Supplemental; as I’m sure you noticed, they can’t even hold an organized press conference on the topic, much less enact a clear policy.

We are releasing this handout around town on the “Caucus of Confusion” led by Speaker Pelosi, which highlights some of the commentary that House Democrats have been facing on their “plan” for Iraq.
