Convention Wrap Up

Friday, September 5th, 2008

Another great day at the convention was capped off by a brilliant speech by our next President, John McCain. And how about that ending? Inspiring! It really gets me excited for the remaining two months of this campaign season.

Before the speech, I was busy making rounds with various media outlets. The photo here is from my time speaking with David Gregory of NBC. I also spoke with most of the local network affiliates in Richmond as well as made an appearance on Susan Allen’s radio show. You can listen to my interview on the Hugh Hewitt show by clicking here (I come in around the 11 minute mark).

Prior to that, while at the VA delegation luncheon, I ran into Lieutenant Governor Bill Bolling and his wife Jean Ann, as well as several Virginia Republican leaders including Trixie Averill, John and Heidi Stirrup, Fred Anderson and Jim Rich. I also had the pleasure of meeting with some of our delegates like Rob Bell, Scott Lingamfelter, John Cosgrove and Chris Saxman who were representing Virginia front and center at the Xcel Center here in Minnesota.

The list of people I’ve seen here goes on and on…Tom Davis, George Allen, Bob McDonnell, Maureen McDonnell, Jerry Kilgore, Trent Lott, Norm Coleman, Fred Barnes, Phyllis Schlaffley, John Warner, Frank Luntz…all were fascinating to speak to about making America better.

I’ll be returning to Virginia today in hopes that Hurricane Hannah skirts the East Coast and everyone remains safe. On Monday, I’ll return to my post in Washington as we desperately try to coax House Democrats into doing something that will help lower gas prices.

Here is a clip of me on Newsweek explaining that very issue as well as why I feel Virginia will turn out and support the McCain-Palin ticket.

Convention Update – Day 4

Thursday, September 4th, 2008

Yet another exciting day in the Twin Cities was capped off by a riveting speech from Gov. Sarah Palin. I sincerely hope you were able to see our next Vice President deliver a message to the citizens of this great nation. I also ran into another revolutionary Republican, Newt Gingrich, while meeting with the press on “radio row.”

The photos here are from a press conference I attended with Senator Jim DeMint of South Carolina, and Representatives Tom Price (R-GA), Kevin McCarthy (R-CA), Virginia Foxx (R-NC), Jeb Hensarling (R-TX), John Kline (R-MN) and John Shadegg (R-AZ). We spoke about the desperate need to end special-interest control over Washington and reform the earmark system in Congress.

Today, I am speaking with our local folks on TV and radio who made the trip to Minnesota. I’ll also be at the VA Delegation luncheon where I will look forward to talking with all of my friends about last night’s electrifying speeches and anticipate Sen. McCain’s speech tonight. Then it’s back to the convention where I will be appearing on the MSNBC set at 8:00pm EST.

Of course the excitement here is growing by the minute for Senator McCain’s speech tonight. Make sure you tune in tonight to see John McCain accept the Republican nomination for President.

It’s been a great four days here in Minnesota, but I can’t wait to get back to Virginia and see my family!

Convention Update – Day 3

Wednesday, September 3rd, 2008

Eric CantorIt has been another whirlwind day here in Minnesota as we all wait in anticipation for Sarah Palin’s speech tonight.

This afternoon I attended a Virginia Delegation luncheon where I met up with many good friends and colleagues including Pat Boone, Former Attorney General Jerry Kilgore and Former Party Chairman John Hager. I also spoke with two inspiring Virginia leaders, our next Senator Jim Gilmore, and our next Governor Bob McDonnell.

I also spent time today with some of my 7th District neighbors that made the trip – Fay Williamson, Marie Quinn, Helen Carter, Bretiss Zacek, and Jean Peterson and her grandson Jeff to name a few.

Tonight there is an exciting lineup of speakers with Rudy Giuliani, Mitt Romney, Mike Huckabee all taking the stage before Vice Presidential Nominee Sarah Palin.

More updates coming soon!

Convention Update

Eric Cantor
The first days of the Republican Convention have been extremely busy for me. My speech scheduled for Monday night (which I was practicing in the photo to the left) was appropriately postponed due to our mobilization to aid in the Hurricane Gustav relief effort. All of us here continue to do everything we can to ensure that people in the Gulf Region are safe. You can follow our efforts at the RNC site here.

Also on Monday, I had the privilege of joining some notable guests in a discussion on the future of the Republican party hosted by Dan Senor. The photo below shows myself along with William Kristol of The Weekly Standard and Meg Whittman, former EBay CEO.
