More Pain at the Pump for Virginians

There was an interesting article out of the Times Dispatch yesterday…

This new “Transit Proposal” is nothing but a tax hike on Virginia families. Each of the 3 individual proposals includes a tax increase, the worst of which is a tax on gasoline. Everyone has seen gasoline prices increase more than $1.25 in Virginia over the last 17 months. Young, working families are paying an extra $15 -$20 each time they fill up their gas tank- money that could go toward their grocery bill due to escalating food prices. Raising the gas tax during an unstable economy when prices are already sky rocketing is just punishing Virginia families who are already hurting. Gas prices are expected to reach $4 by summer time, affecting our commutes, food budgets and vacation plans—none of us need any more pain at the pump.

While some are seeking to increase the cost of gas, Republicans, including Sen. John McCain are trying to lower it. We’re are trying to extend tax breaks and credits to the American people, not increases. In addition, as a nation we need to dedicate ourselves to investing in wind, solar and nuclear energy to wean off our dependence on foreign oil.

I support the gas tax holliday! I think this will help Families big time . You know one thing I just can not get for the life of me is, How the Liberal’s say they are for the poor and working Families, and at the same time Rise taxes! and don’t support the Gas tax Holliday! That will help the same people i.e the poor and working class. But they go around saying the Republican’s are the proplem. When Republicans, are the ones that want to keep taxes low. And belive you should keep more of what you earn and not pay it all to uncle sam or the state! mybe it’s just me! but I just get so tired off the liberals twisting the story!

The gas tax holiday will help but not a lot. The only way I’ll see much difference is to fill up my 38 gallon diesel truck and save a little over $9-ooooooo, what ever. Filling up my car, which is used more often then the truck I’ll only save a little over $2-that won’t even buy me a gallon of milk anymore or a dozen eggs.
What we need to do is protest the WHOLE price per gallon of gas and diesel. Without a lowering of diesel cost the cost of everything else will sky rocket. We have to do something to help the OTR drivers or we’ll be dreaming of $3.80/g for regular unleaded and $4.60/g of diesel!!
Mr. Cantor-what can/will you do to make the fuel companies quit passing on their idiotic administration payroll onto us everytime we visit their pumps?

The gas tax ‘holiday’ is a joke. Do the math. $30 to $50 isn’t going to change anybody’s life. You want to see the price of gasoline drop TODAY? Here’s how: Get Congress to announce they are going to authorize full speed ahead on developing OUR OWN oil resources. From offshore drilling to ANWR, to shale development. Say they are going to support building new refineries, and expand development of coal-to-oil processes. Of course they’ll have to follow through on their announcement, but the price of gas will drop TODAY just from the announcement. Be Part of AmericasSolution.com Oh yeah, and vote out the pinheads that don’t listen.
