House Republicans are shutting down the floor, because the Democrats are threatening to change a rule and deny Republicans any opportunity to offer a motion to recommit on the "paygo" provisions of their legislation. That's a lot of wonky talk; bottom line - the Democrats are preventing their Members from having to vote on the tax increases that they are trying to impose on the American People. It is simply stunning that House Democrats want to change the germanenss rule on motions to recommit; this would be the first change to the germaneness rule since 1822. Check back for updates. We will be updating on this showdown as it unfolds. UPDATE: Rep. Westmoreland just moved for a recorded quorum call, then a motion that the committee will rise. Expect to see more of these...

May 16th, 2007 at 2:50 pm My hat is off to the Republicans of the House! If the “Paygo” nonsense is actually important the Dems should institute “Paygo” with the Social Security surplus. Maybe they would be so wise as to make that “Paygo Social Security” retroactive to the time that the fund went into surplus. Just kidding, they claim that those funds are being “saved”. The arrogance of the Democrats of the House is stunning and only surpassed by the arrogance and ignorance of our media.

May 16th, 2007 at 4:11 pm Sweet. It’s about time you guys fought back. Every sleazy trick they pulled while in teh minority needs to come back to them, hard.
May 16th, 2007 at 4:53 pm Good move.
It’s good to see the Republican minority standing up and being counted.
May 16th, 2007 at 5:14 pm Keep up the good work. My new representative is Patrick Murphy who won over Michael Fitzpatrick in the last election. Hopefully Fitzpatrick or some other Republican will be back after the next election.
May 16th, 2007 at 5:35 pm Wow, I can’t believe it, it looks as if some Republicans have grown a spine and are finally standing up to these Stalinist liberals. KEEP IT UP!! Fight these Stalinists. My representative is John Kline from Minnesota, I love him he is doing a great job. Don’t fear the left wing media , don’t let them influence you guys. We republicans across the fruited plain want strong leaders that will fight the opposing party, not cave like you did for the past eight years. Get back to your Conservative Reagan principles and you will win the house back in 08. If you don’t I will sit home again like I did in 06.
May 16th, 2007 at 8:49 pm Great work, I’m glad to see that there are some fighting Republicans left in the house!
May 16th, 2007 at 9:25 pm How incredibly refreshing to see our GOP reps actually fight back against these Dems. Great Work, fellas! Just keep it up and you’ll be amazed by the positive response from the base. We are THIRSTING to see this kind of action from you all. KEEP IT UP!!

May 17th, 2007 at 9:59 am Thank you to GOP, start fighting back, and don’t let up. The bi-partisanship McCain refers to is simply caving in to what the Dems want. Enough, let’s win back America. Good work, don’t stop now.
May 17th, 2007 at 11:20 am thanks so much for shutting them down. I would email my senators and congressman, but Turbin Durbin, Obama the magnificient and Mellissa Bean about issues but that would be a waste of time since only the fringe left get their ear.

September 28th, 2008 at 3:48 pm Mr. Cantor,
I just wanted you to know I am with you in your opposition to the bailout.
No bailout without full disclosure. No bailout without punitive measures for management.
That means all compensation, options, deferred compensation, retirements, and benefits are to be limited to a total of $250,000 if they want the governement help.
Good luck with the battle. The opposition pre announcing of a deal is just a strategy.
