Balancing the budget and keeping Government at an unintrusive and efficient level is the backbone of conservatism. In regards to this, departments and programs that are of the same general catagory should be consolidated and streamlined. For example, the Department of Defense, Department of Homeland Security and the Department of Veteren’s Affairs could be combined under one department. This would hopefully cut down the cost and size allowing them to get their job done better, faster and cheaper.

This idea is awful! Having first hand experience in dealing with FEMA and Louisiana’s Road Home program, the government cannot do anything better, faster or cheaper. What is needed for results, is to fund private industry and have a very strong non political Inspector General assigned to, for example, Veteran’s affairs.

1400 ice trucks were scattered across the country, costing tax payers millions.

In a follow up to my comments, I want to warn that private industry without controls can be dangerous.

The SHAW GROUP was given huge contracts by the Feds for Katrina cleanup and all they did was to subcontract out the jobs that were in turn subed out again and again. SHAW GROUP made millions for moving paper. The head of SHAW GROUP was the former head of the Democrat Party in Louisiana.

When I stated that private industry should be contracted, the company has to have all of what they need to do the job in house, NO SUBCONTRACTING, PERIOD!

The Department of Defense needs to be kept separate.
