The main problem with illegal immigration is two-fold.
1. It is incredibly easy to enter the country illegally. Fix this by whatever means is necessary - build a fence would be a great start.
2. Employers are both eager and forced by competition to hire and exploit these shadow workers. Create a verification system that is easy to use and heavily punish employers who cheat.

We have laws on the books, but they are not enforced. So, what makes anyone believe that any new laws will fair any better? I’d make one change in the employer responsibility side. If you get caught with any illegals working for your company, you will be prosecuted and fined, $100,000 for each illegal, no exceptions. Second offence is an automatic $1,000,000 fine and 5-years in federal prison.
If anyone would like to raise the level of the first offence fine, that’s okay by me.

Enforcing federal law is the responsibility of the executive branch. Failure to enforce federal law means the executive branch as well as congress are in violation of their oaths of office. Those who fail to enforce the laws of the land need to be removed from office by the voters. Unfortunately, the voting public generally seems to stands behind their elected representatives so long as they bring back the pork barrel money. There used to be a group called the silent majority. Maybe it is time for them to stand up and flex their muscle and simply insist on what is right and refuse to accept anything less.

On the surface, fines sound like a good idea, unfortunately, employers are not allowed to check the validity of a social security number. It is my understanding that even police are not allowed to ask if someone is illegal. According to Guilliani, walking across the border without permission is not illegal.

Secure the border now, by sending the US Army to secure it, don’t tie their hands, or allow the National Guard to respond in force if attacked. Just today, it was reported that the Mexican Military has been making incursions into our country protecting drug smugglers. http://lang.dailybulletin.com/projects/video/012406_interview.wmw
Allow the current legal entry points to flow through the proper check points. All the while, be building that fence. As each section is finished, the military security can be drawn down to proper numbers.

Get the fence built and stop bowing down to the Mexican Government, as well as La Raza, MALDEF, and other groups like these.
It is urgent now, because we cannot trust McCain and we sure cannot depend on Obama to do anything!
If we are short on resources, then why in the world are we allowing millions of foreigners here? That includes illegals and more and more visa workers?
It’s time to get our country in shape for US citizens!

And let’s stop paying for their healthcare, housing, etc. I heard that the porkulus bill has (more) money set aside that will be able to be given to illegals….how’s that sound to you?
Also, we need to get rid of politicians who put out the red carpet for them as well. Prince William County, VA started checking the “status” of people who have been arrested and both their crime rate and school population have dropped. Unfortunately, now the adjoining county, Fairfax County, VA, is having a large increase in crime and they are expecting 5,000 new students next year after an unexpected rise of 2,000 students this year. Montgomery County, VA is also experiencing a surge in the crime rate there after announcing themselves to be a “sanctuary” county.
