Gitmo is central to American security in the 21st century. We should not only keep it open, but expand it and fund it through the next administration.

No Naming of Public Property After Self
Misc

1 Star2 Stars3 Stars4 Stars5 Stars
(91 votes, average:: 4.4 out of 5)

I propose congress be prohibited from sponsoring any bill which includes any provision for naming a program, entitlement, street, highway, bridge, sewer (well, okay, we’ll leave that one in) building, monument, community, tree, insect, vegetable, asteroid, comet, planet, and/or anything else after a sitting senator or congressman and for up to 25 years after leaving office. Further, no community or local, county, state or federal government body may name any of the above mentioned items after a sitting senator or congressman and for up to 25 years after leaving office.  Why tempt them with free advertising?

Save The Tax Breaks
Taxes

1 Star2 Stars3 Stars4 Stars5 Stars
(87 votes, average:: 4.16 out of 5)

Many of the tax breaks we have been enjoying for the past few years will disappear in 2010 unless Congress acts to renew them. These tax breaks have been portrayed as tax cuts for the rich. This is absolutely false. The taxpayers who will be harmed the most are married filing joint, middle income taxpayers (earning $40,000-$130,000/year) with children under age seventeen. Those taxpayers could owe $1,000 more tax per qualifying child with the loss of just one tax break, the child tax credit.

Build A Fence Now
Border Security

1 Star2 Stars3 Stars4 Stars5 Stars
(80 votes, average:: 4.14 out of 5)

The main problem with illegal immigration is two-fold.

1. It is incredibly easy to enter the country illegally. Fix this by whatever means is necessary - build a fence would be a great start.

2. Employers are both eager and forced by competition to hire and exploit these shadow workers. Create a verification system that is easy to use and heavily punish employers who cheat.
